This festival gives full focus to old school American Swing dancing, its roots and style. The teachers will share the knowledge that was passed on to them by Frankie Manning, Albert Minns, Norma Miller, Harold & Fayard Nichols and many more of the original swing dancers from the golden age of Jazz. Come join the creativity, contribute to the social and fun experience - Step into the swing bubble with us!
The Lindy Hop Beginners class will have a separate schedule with only 2 hours of classes every evening and will also have separate teachers very experienced with beginners and lower levels.
All other groups will have:
11 hours of Lindy Hop classes (or Solo Jazz for the Solo Jazz group) where all groups will meet all teachers at least twice. The overall goal for these classes is to connect the material with HOW the dance was passed on to us by the originators, their choreographies or way of embodying Swing-jazz. But the teachers will also include their own tools and technique how they've learnt to pass on the dance without changing the essence of it or speaking another language than jazz.
Specific rhythm classes included in the above!
1,5 hours of music lecture on Swing Jazz and how to incorporate it while dancing (in contrast to how many dancers today have a modern and non-jazz related approach and way of dancing).
1,5 hours class with a combination of West African dancing and Solo Jazz - to emphasize the clear origins of swing jazz movements and expressions, gain inspiration from what the original steps resembled and the aim to create an individual style in both dance forms. This class can really serve as an eye opener and good inspiration injection to your Swing dancing!
All classes are located in the same location in the city center just by the water, a short walk from the beach.
