During those 3 days we will work on:
- Pre Lindy Hop During one class we will work on material inspired from the Movie After Seben and dancers like Shorty George Snowden and Mattie Purnell. - Savoy Lindy Hop - What is that? We will talk a little, watch some movies for ideas and inspiration, but of course, mainly get it down to practice, help you find it in your own dancing. - Fast dancing & Air-steps We will work on a fast routine that will include a few easy, basic air-steps. We will have a separate hour where we only work on the actual lifts, jumps and also one or two "real" air-steps, which can include some kind of rotation in the air. This will be on your individual level and we will make sure everyone feels safe and at ease. - How to get inspiration from vintage clips We will look at clips that have inspired us in many different ways when it comes to both Lindy Hop and Solo-Jazz. We will have one specific session where we will work on helping you to understand what it is that you should look for (start with) when you want to take out steps or rhythms from an original dance clip. - Rhythm and musicality Always a part of our classes in general but we will also do one class where we focus a little bit extra on this topic where we will help you with: What to listen for in the music as a swing dancer, how to build up nice and simple rhythms, what is a riff, a break, a chorus and maybe most importantly: how important is this for you as a Lindy Hopper and how do I use these as inspiration in my Lindy Hop dancing? - Blues/Slow Drag For one class we will work on slow drag/blues- what we call the real-deal-kind of Slow dancing where we work with different changes in rhythm, dynamics, grace and the authentic sensual way of moving to slow jazz music. - West African dancing and the resemblance to Solo-Jazz of the 40's You will work for one class together with Usman Camara who is a professional dancer and teacher in West African dancing. He have put together a routine together with us where we will find the African roots in steps like Apple Jacks, Tuck Annie's, Fall of the log, Suzy Q and many more. - Personal feedback, both on your fundamentals and styling During the workshop we as teachers will be in the rotation so that we can dance with you and also being able to give you feedback all through the workshop. If the weather allows we might do some of the classes (African and Air-steps) outside in the sun. |
