22-23 FEB 2020: RHYTHMS, solo jazz, lindy hop, tap, musicality, african dancing
About the workshop This workshop will focus on several rhythmical aspects in the tradition of Lindy Hop. Without rhythm there is no dancing. Lindy Hop is such a faceted and rich dance that you never really reach the end of your own development. As a Lindy Hop dancer you are a musician and there is always a possibility to develop, to get better at controlling your musical instrument and how to express yourself through it; Your body - Your instrument. We will include some Solo Jazz and a little bit of Tap (making rhythm with your feet) combined with the Lindy Hop. Solo Jazz has always been a natural part of Lindy Hop and is a very good way to find your own style and own ways of moving, when not having to think about following and leading. Tap is simply creating rhythms with your feet. To know a little bit of Tap is a must to be able to perform some of the jazz steps (like the break in Shim Sham) and most rhythmical footwork variations in Lindy Hop. We want to help you to achieve the end goal of doing rhythmical variation in your dancing - on time and in control. As an extra treat you will also get a taster class in West African rhythms, which is one of the ancestors to Swing music and Swing dance.
Teachers for the workshop: Åsa and Daniel Heedman: Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz and Tap for Lindy Hoppers You can read more about us here. Ousmane Camara: West African Dancing Ousmane Camara is a professional dancer and teacher, originally from Guinea, and have been touring the world as a dancer with "Ballet Communale Matam”. Ousmane is very appreciated as the main African dance teacher at Herräng Dance Camp. Time-schedule All classes will be a mixture of, foremost Lindy Hop, but also Solo-Jazz and Tap (for Lindy Hoppers). The end goal with the workshop is to make you a better Lindy Hopper on a rhythmical level. We have chosen to not specify or separate the different class themes (except the African dance class) as it all comes down to one dance: Lindy Hop - A Rhythm Dance.
